BETTER PAY FOR TROOPS

As the spotlight falls on national defence spending, Liberal Democrat candidate for Easington Tara Saville is calling for a better pay and homes for our troops.
Tara said:
"The Labour Government has sent our troops to war without a fair deal.
"There are almost two admirals for every warship, but front line troops are under-equipped and badly paid. The current structure of the Ministry of Defence is inefficient, and at a time when the country has such a fragile economy this is completely appalling.
"At the moment a new entrant can expect under £14,000 a year for risking their life for the security of others. The Liberal Democrats would bring the basic pay of the lowest paid soldiers in line with that of police constables and double the number of forces' family homes refurbished each year.
"I think this is the least that brave recruits from the North East and Easington deserve."
