Welcoming the launch of the Liberal Democrats manifesto by Nick Clegg, the Lib Dem's Easington candidate Tara Saville said:
'Fairness is right at the heart of this manifesto. Our positive and costed proposals will bring change that works for everyone in Easington who have been failed by years of broken Labour promises.
'Under our plans, the first £10,000 in income would be tax-free: a tax-cut worth on average £700 per year for most people in Easington. Many low-income pensioners would pay no tax at all.
'This will be paid for by closing loop holes that unfairly benefit the wealthy and polluters.
'On education, our Pupil Premium will also see an extra £30 million invested in schools across county Durham, targeted towards the most disadvantaged children.
'We will also break up the banks and get them lending again; we will create jobs by investing in green energy and infrastructure.
'Finally, we will clean up politics by giving people the right to sack corrupt MPs.
'All of these proposals will lay the foundation of the just and fair society the people in this region want to see.'
